. (B) S162/FM7;UAS-polyQ/CyO females were crossed with elav-Gal4/Y;+/+ males. For polyglutamine peptide (polyQ), the percent survival was measured by dividing the number of non-CyO Q-expressing female progeny by the number of CyO female progeny (elav-Gal4/FM7;UAS-polyQ/+ divided by elav-Gal4/FM7;CyO/+). For S162+polyQ, a similar ratio (elav-Gal4/S162;UAS-polyQ/+ divided by elav-Gal4/S162;CyO/+) was determined. Over 600 progeny of each class were counted. (C) S162/FM7;UAS-polyQ/CyO females were crossed with elav-Gal4/Y;Sp/gCREB2 males. The number of flies with polyQ plus the various markers was divided by number of flies with CyO plus the corresponding markers. Genotypes of polyQ-containing progeny: gCREB+polyQ: elav-Gal4/FM7;UAS-polyQ/gCREB, polyQ: elav-Gal4/FM7;UAS-polyQ/Sp, S162+polyQ: elav-Gal4/S162;UAS-polyQ/Sp, gCREB+S162+polyQ: elav-Gal4/S162;UAS-polyQ/gCREB. (D) The hs-PKA* transgene rescues polyQ-mediated lethality. elav-Gal4/Y; hs-PKA*/CyO males were crossed with UAS-Q48#13 females. The number of female flies, all of whom carry elav-Gal4 with the various other markers, was divided by the number of male flies with corresponding markers. Genotypes of female progeny: polyQ: elav-Gal4/w; UAS- polyQ/CyO, polyQ+PKA: elav-Gal4/w; UAS-polyQ/hs-PKA*. (E) elav-Gal4/Y;hs-MEK/CyO males were crossed with UAS-Q48#13 females. The number of female flies, all of which have elav-Gal4 with various other markers, was divided by the number of male flies with the corresponding markers.
