Fig. 6. Citrate lyase domains. Animals encode a citrate lyase protein with three domains. The domains correspond to individual proteins found in many species: succinyl-CoA synthase b (SCSb , blue), succinyl-CoA synthase a (SCSa , green), and citrate synthase (CS, red). Most bacterial species, including C. tepidum, encode each domain as an individual protein (CT0380, CT0269, and CT1834). Plants and fungi encode a two-domain protein corresponding to SCSa and CS and a separate protein corresponding to SCSb . Surprisingly, in addition to its three single-domain proteins, C. tepidum encodes a plant/fungi-like two-domain protein (CT1088) with a single-domain SCSb (CT1089) equivalent immediately adjacent on the genome. CT1088 and CT1089 are most closely related to genes from plants.
