Backscattered electron image of the quenched sample of (Mg0.39,Fe0.61)O from about 86 GPa and 2,580 (±130) K. The laser beam was approximately 25 mm in diameter at the center of the sample. The sample was laser heated for more than 30 min at 2,580 (±130) K, and the total duration of the laser heating was approximately 3 h. The quenched sample was chemically homogeneous as confirmed by the backscattered electron image, energy-dispersive x-ray chemical analyses across the sample, and x-ray maps of iron and magnesium.
