Localization of the apoB48R to chromosome 16p11 by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Human apoB48R cDNA (1-2,614) was labeled with Cy3-dUTP by nick translation and hybridized to normal human metaphase and interphase nuclei from phytohemagglutinin-stimulated blood lymphocytes. Chromosomes were counterstained with DAPI and the fluorescence images captured with digitized image microscopy. (Left) DAPI-stained chromosomes (blue) with Cy3-labeled hybridization signal (red) noted by white arrows. (Right) Black-and-white image of DAPI-stained chromosomes for identification. (Bottom) The same pair of chromosome 16 with Cy3 (red) signal and DAPI-stained chromosome lined up against the black-and-white DAPI-stained chromosome for better comparison of hybridization location.
