Ventricular fibrillation (VF). The right ventricle of a farm pig was placed in vitro in a perfusion system. The voltage-sensitive dye di-4-ANEPPS was added to the perfusate, and the resulting fluorescent images were captured by a charge-coupled device camera, at a 2-ms sampling rate. The image resolution is 128 ´ 128, and the area imaged is 30 mm ´ 30 mm. Voltage is shown color-coded, with red representing the highest voltage values (depolarized cells), ranging to blue and finally black for the lowest voltages (resting tissue). Note the chaotic wave conduction that is characteristic of VF (see Methods in the main paper for further details).
