Fig. 4. Specificity of the opsonophagocytic killing of rabbit antisera raised to deacetylated poly-N-acetylglucosamine (dPNAG)-diphtheria toxoid (DT). The antiserum was diluted 1:10, resulting in killing levels of 40-75% of different target strains and then adsorbed with either wild-type Escherichia coli J (black bars) or mutant E. coli JDpga (gray bars) strains. Bars represent means and error bars the SD from three to five separate experiments. Adsorption of the sera with the wild-type PNAG producing strain removed essentially all killing activity, whereas adsorption with the PNAG-negative strain had no effect.
