This figure includes complete Bacterial and Archaea genomes as listed in the Genomes online database as of May 1, 2003(http://wit.integratedgenomics.com/GOLD/). Prokaryotic genomes that have relatively low gene number/genome size ratio include Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, two members of Archaea (Methanosarcina acetivorans and Methanosarcina mazai), two Xanthomonas species, and Mycobacterium leprae.
