Fig. 4. PAGE performed on a C₁₂-Ag_n solution. Exciting the gel with 633 nm light (Storm Fluoroimager, Molecular Dynamics) revealed the bright, largely near-IR-emitting band in the inset, which was physically cut out from the gel. The C₁₂-Ag_n was extracted and mass spectrometry was performed on the recovered material, clearly showing C₁₂ ss-DNA alone (3,407 amu) and bound with both Ag₂ (3,620 amu) and Ag₃ (3,727 amu). Twenty percent polyacrylamide gel in 0.5´ TBE (Tris/borate/EDTA) buffer solutions were used to run C₁₂:Ag_n samples for 1.5 days at 60 V in a cold room (4°C).
