Figure S1. Immunostaining of synaptonemal complexes with anti-SYCP2 serum. We tested the specificity of our guinea pig anti-SYCP2 serum by double staining of wild-type spermatocytes with a previously published rabbit anti-SYCP2 serum (serum 493; a gift from C. Heytig, Wageningen University, Wageningen, Netherlands; Offenberg et al., 1998). Serum 493 was raised against amino acid residues 293-828 of rat SYCP2. Our guinea pig antiserum was raised against residues 1,255-1,500 of mouse SYCP2. Although the epitopes of these two antisera are different, both label synaptonemal complexes specifically. We have used our guinea pig anti-SYCP2 serum in all of the double stainings because all other antibodies were raised in rabbits. (A) Immunostaining with guinea pig anti-SYCP2 serum (green).
