Figure S2. Calponin expression of EPDCs. Primary epicardial cells were cultured and either immediately processed for confocal microscopy or induced to differentiate with heart-conditioned media. Cell differentiation was assessed by morphology along with the expression of the smooth muscle marker calponin (Morabito et al., 2001). Calponin expression was only observed in cells treated with conditioned media and that had changed morphology. Furthermore, localization of Tbx5 to cytoplasmic filaments was only detected in calponin-expressing cells.
