Buckling and a catastrophe under the influence of force. The video sequence shows a MT growing towards a barrier, which is located on the left (CT= 28 µM). After initiation of barrier-contact, the MT starts to buckle. A small downward directed sliding event is visible while buckling. Finally, the MT undergoes a catastrophe while being under tension. Images were recorded every 4 s, and the displayed frame rate is 10 frames/s. Bar, 5 µm.
