Entry of filopodia into ventral layer of the cytoskeleton. Video shows the periphery of a CAR fibroblast that was transfected with EGFP-fascin and imaged simultaneously by TIRF and epifluorescence (green, TIRF; red, epifluorescence); regions 1 and 2 correspond, respectively, to Figs. 3 A and 3 B. Arrowheads indicate examples of filopodia folding down into the ventral cytoskeleton at the base of the lamellipodium. Time-lapse images were acquired every 10 s and the total duration of the video was 54 min. The display rate is 6 frames/s. Bar, 5 µm.
