Host-guest turn simulations, using the protocol described in Methods and the color coding in Fig. 1. The panels show the biases that result from the host sequence (Val5-Ala-Pro-Gly-Ala-Val5) and six additional sequences in which a guest residue (Asp, Glu, Leu, Asn, Ser, and Thr) is substituted at position six. Ser, Asp, and Asn favor formation of a type I or III turn, while Ala, Leu, and Glu favor formation of a type II turn. Populations are given in Table 4.
