Figure S5.Kinetics of pDC recruitment into the lungs. Mice were infected with influenza, and their lungs were examined by flow cytometry using the gating strategy outlined in Fig. S3 for numbers of total pDCs and CD8+ pDCs on days 2, 4, and 6 a.i. CD8α has been suggested to be a marker for activated pDCs. In agreement with these data, in naive mice, the majority of pDCs do not express CD8α, whereas most pDCs have up-regulated CD8α by day 6 a.i. Unless otherwise noted, CD8α+ pDCs were used for all experiments. Data represent the mean ± the SEM and are representative of two to three separate experiments. n = 5–9 mice/group.
