- Supplemental Figure 1 - Expression of MR and GR in the mammary gland and the uterus
The rMR1-18 6G1 antibody (from Gomez-Sanchez) and the GR (M-20) antibody (from Santa Cruz) were used to analyse GR and MR expression in the uteri and mammary glands of mice. Liver and kidney tissue served as positive controls for the GR and MR antibodies, respectively. The primary immunserum was omitted in the respective negative controls. In the kidneys, nuclear MR immunoreactivity is restricted to defined parts of the tubulus system, as expected. In the mammary glands, MR is expressed in a subset of ductal epithelial cells. GR is expressed in the nuclei of liver hepatocytes and in the nuclei of mammary ductal epithelial cells. In the uterus, there is no specific MR immunostaining whereas GR is expressed in the nuclei of epithelial cells as well as in stromal and some smooth muscle cells. At the mRNA level, GR is expressed tenfold higher than MR in the uterus and the mammary gland (data not shown).
