Fast-scan cyclic voltammograms recorded during chemical degranulation of a vesicular monoamine transporter (VMAT2)-/- mast cell. Electrochemical current sampled at peak oxidation potentials for both histamine (upper line) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) (lower line) are shown. The false color plot shows a slight current drift without any sharp current transients. (Right) A cyclic voltammogram obtained during a postexperiment calibration of the electrode is shown. Thus, the electrode was functional in its response to histamine and serotonin, and the absence of signals during cyclic voltammetry at the cell surface is because 5-HT and histamine are not secreted.
