Column 1 indicates the isolate number and the country and region from which each sample was isolated. Z, Luangwa in Zambia; B, Busoga in Uganda; BK, Busia on the Kenyan/Ugandan border; N, Nyanza in Kenya. un, Uncloned isolate. Column 2 gives the year in which each sample was isolated. Column 3 indicates human serum sensitivity. R, resistant; S, sensitive; ND, not determined. Column 4 gives details of the host from which each sample was isolated, M, man; C, cattle; T, tsetse. Column 5 presents the genotype of each isolate for the marker MS42 based on the number of repeats and on MVR internal maps of each allele (12). * Indicates that allele size (the number of repeats) only was used to genotype these isolates for MS42. Columns 6 and 7 indicate the CRAM and 292 minisatellite genotypes presented as an estimate of the number of repeats in each allele, respectively. Column 7 shows the multilocus genotype. Each genotype was assigned an arbitrary number, prefixed M. ND, not determined; NA, not applicable, as isolate is of mixed genotype.
