Knockdown of KIF9B in T. brucei dramatically affects flagellar beating and cell behavior. The first sequence shows noninduced cells that swim rapidly, as expected. The following sequences show KIF9BRNAi cells induced for 3 d. Two individual cells with a detached flagellum and one individual cell with an attached flagellum all show severe reduction in flagellar beating. This motility phenotype results in failure to complete cytokinesis (last sequence).
