Quality of relationship with general practitioner
Very good relationship with general practitioner
My relationship is very good with the GP. Sometimes, you know, they just ring me up, just to talk and to make sure I am all right.
(mother of 3 year old girl)
The GP is very good and he has even given meCI don't even know if he shouldChe has given his private number and says if I need him any time, to give him a ring. He is very, very good.

Acceptable relationship with general practitioner
I didn't like the way my previous GP talked about HIV and I told the health visitor at the hospital and she changed the doctor for me. The GP I have now is all right. When I do go to see her, she is OK.
(mother of 2 year old boy)
[The GP]...will take time and he will even come out to our home if I am not well.... [But when she] is not well, she prefers to see [the doctor] at the hospital.

Use of primary care services
Consulting for repeat prescriptions
The only reason I would go to the GP is if I had run out of [his] medicine. When I need a prescription. And I don't see the doctor, I just go to the desk and ask for a repeat prescription.
(mother of 2 year old boy)
We only ring the GP for the prescription for Septrin. We haven't seen him.

Consulting for familiar acute symptoms
I never go to the GP. But I have an appointment tomorrow with a new one, to be registered. But I would normally only use the Centre at the hospital. But I have to have the GP because [he] sometimes has fever. He usually gets sick on Friday nights. So if I have a GP it is much better, because the same day when he is sick, the GP can come, instead of waiting until Monday to find out. Maybe by then he would have a very high fever and require an emergency room. I have had a GP until now, but she has moved. She is very far now. She knew about the HIV.... Otherwise it is a long way to go to the hospital clinic.

Practical considerations
When she has ear infections, we usually take her to the surgery here in the village, unless they can't cure it and then we take her to the hospital.... We have got three doctors for her really. We live so far away from London that we can't just go up there every time. It is impossible.
