The close, physical apposition of the ER to mitochondria and to endo-lysosomal compartments is shown in Movie7.mov and Movie8.mov, respectively. Movie9.mov reveals how the 3-D distribution of 2,119 small, spherical, nonclathrin vesicles is focused primarily close to Golgi membranes and to a lesser extent the ER. Tomographic slice data show the numerous tethers connecting small vesicles to each other and to Golgi membranes (Movie10.mov). Movie11.mov shows the clustering of endo-lysosomal compartments with distinct morphological profiles in the Golgi region. Not 1 of the 132 dense core vesicles present in the Golgi region appears to have been forming from the Golgi complex at the instant the cell was frozen (Movie12.mov). Movie13.mov, Movie14.mov, and Movie15.mov show the distinct morphological profiles of the three major subsets of endo-lysosomal compartments found in the Golgi region: saccules, tubules, and tubulo-vesicular clusters that displayed clathrin coats on their numerous buds.
