Supplemental Figure 6Fig. 6.
A schematic of the three-dimensional structure of functional unit OdH-g, showing the locations of all internal introns from both hemocyanins. Internal introns (designated by the respective exon pair) found in any OdHG FUs are in blue, those in any HtH1 FUs are in red. Note that these are highly concentrated in the a-helical, copper-binding core domain (N-terminal part of the FU); only one intron lies in the b-sandwich domain (C-terminal part of the FU), and none are in the hinge region (a15-b1). Most, but not all, lie in interhelix loops. The two copper atoms are drawn as black spheres. The carbohydrate side chain is marked by a black arrow.
