Retention frequency of 169 gene-specific and short tandem repeat (STR) markers on the horse X chromosome. The x axis shows distribution of markers from the Xpter to the Xqter region on the chromosome, and the y axis shows the frequency of retention for individual markers. The centromere is demonstrated by an arrowhead. Marker retention was higher than average in the proximal and subtelomeric regions of the short arm (brackets with an upward arrowhead) and lower than average in the distal part of the long arm (bracket with a downward arrowhead).
