Alignment of mouse basonuclin 2 with AK031440. The nucleotide sequences of the 5' parts of the two mRNAs have been aligned. These mRNAs are formed by alternate splicing. AK031440 contains an ORF (288 aa) extending from the first methionine in exon 1a (underlined) to a termination codon located in intron IV. Additional exons 1a and 2a of AK031440 maintain the reading frame of exons 2, 3, and 4, which are shared with basonuclin 2. As a result, the two proteins would share the same sequence in patches. AK031440 lacks exons 5 and 6 and therefore misses the entire C-terminal 3/4 of the basonuclin 2 molecule including all of the zinc fingers.
