Results from clinics in and outside London
The reply rate from clinics in London (15/18; 83%) was comparable with that from clinics from the rest of Britain (42/57; 73%). Twelve (80%) clinics in London had a policy about the treatment of patients infected with HIV compared with 29 (69%) clinics in the rest of the country (c 2=0.6, df=1, P=0.5). Nine (60%) clinics in London had seen a patient infected with HIV compared with eight (19%) of the clinics outside London (c 2=8.8, df=1, P=0.007).
Centres in London were more likely than those outside London to offer investigations to a couple when the man was infected with HIV (12/13 (92%) v 21/37 (57%), P=0.03), but not when the woman or both partners were infected (8/13 (62%) v 17/36 (47%) for women, P=0.4 and 8/13 (62%) v 16/36 (44%) for both, P=0.3).
