Fig. 9.

Efflux of 86Rb+ from A. polypoides cells. (A) Kinetics of 86Rb+ efflux evoked by AA or 28°C. AA (50 m M at 14°C) or high temperature were applied starting from the fifth 10-min incubation interval. Each point represents the mean radioactivity per fraction from four different experiments (SD £ 10% for all time points). ♦, AA; ▲, 28°C; <, control 14°C. (B) Summary of the effects of K+ channel activators or inhibitors on 86Rb+ efflux. Total radioactivity released during three consecutive 10-min incubation intervals was determined under the various conditions. Gd3+ (50 mM), Ba2+ (1 mM), La3+ (50 mM), or 8-bromo-cAMP (500 mM) were added to the cells at the time of AA (50 mM) or temperature (28°C) stimulation (see A). K252a (1 mM) or bupivacaine (BP, 1 mM) were added at time = zero. Control efflux was the radioactivity spontaneously released from the cells at 14°C during the same time.
