Schematic illustration of the proposed mechanism of RCT-mediated hRNF formation. The formation of hRNF particles results from the electrostatic attraction and van der Waals forces between RNA, magnesium (Mg2+) and pyrophosphate ions (PPi4− or P2O74−), in which long synthetic RNA strands actively participate in modulating the nucleation and growth process of Mg2PPi crystals.
