Neural response to the speed pulse for four single neurons. The average spike rate after a speed pulse in the receptive field is shown for four single neurons. The spike rate function is the average from correct and missed trials, aligned on the start of the speed pulse. A, This LIP neuron responded with a transient increase in spike rate after the speed pulse, which was typical of the single neurons in the population. B–D, The responses of MT neurons were more diverse and exhibited biphasic (B), excitatory (C), and inhibitory (D) responses.
