Response to dextrose gel among 250 patients with asymptomatic hypoglycemia managed with the hypoglycemia protocol shown in figure 1. Seventy patients responded to the first dose of dextrose gel and did not require further therapy. Twenty-eight patients had low glucose levels of <25 mg/dl after the first dose of dextrose gel and were transferred to the NICU for IV dextrose treatment. 152 patients had glucose levels of 25–45 mg/dl and were treated with a second dose of dextrose gel. Response to the second and third dose of dextrose gel is also shown.
