Responses (% fMRI signal change) from MM and MS to ITD motion, ILD motion, stationary volume changes, FM sweeps, and human speech within (A) MT+, (B) auditory cortex, and (C) ventral occipitotemporal cortex ROIs. Responses to all stimuli are relative to their respective baseline control stimuli. Only area MT+ had motion-specific responses. To the left, sample coronal slice views from subject MM illustrate ROI locations (Y- Talairach coordinates given). Note that ventral occipitotemporal ROIs were identified in MM only and left/right hemispheric responses within that ROI are shown separately for the speech condition because it evoked a highly lateralized response. All other responses are averaged across left and right hemispheres. Error bars denote s.e.m. Stars denote significant differences from zero (*p<0.05, ** p<0.01).
