The model consists of 6 neuron pools as indicated (TC: thalamocortical neurons; NRT: neurons of the nucleus reticularis thalami; Int: inhibitory interneurons; other neuronal pools as indicated). Yellow triangles and large black circles indicate excitatory and inhibitory synaptic connections, respectively, with their postsynaptic receptors. The small black circles on the connections represent branching points (i.e. origins of collaterals). Other crossings of the connection pathways do not indicate branching. (See Appendix A for additional information).
