Retraction of ‘Nuclear CaMKII enhances histone H3 phosphorylation and remodels chromatin during cardiac hypertrophy’

PMCID: PMC10018330  PMID: 36796793

In June 2022, a reader raised concerns about image manipulation in Figures 4 and 7 as detailed below.

In Figure 4B, the images in the BrDU 20X siControl and BrDU 20X siCaMKIIδB panels are duplicates.

In Figure 7, the following lanes appear to be duplicates:

  • Duplication 1: Figure 7C Chromatin panel lanes 2–3, Figure 7D Chromatin panel lanes 1–2, and Figure 7D DNA panel, lanes 3–4.

  • Duplication 2: Figure 7D Chromatin panel lanes 3–4, and Figure 7D DNA panel lanes 1–2 and 5–6.

  • Duplication 3: Figure 7C DNA panel, lane 2 and lane 3 after vertical flip.

An Expression of Concern was posted in August 2022. The editors and corresponding author have since scrutinized the images. Both parties came to similar conclusions as the reader about Figures 4B and 7D, but only the editors initially came to similar conclusions as the reader about Figure 7C. Due to the age of the article and the data retention requirements, the original data could not be retrieved, and because these experiments are key to the article and the validity of the overall conclusions, the corresponding author requested a retraction of the article.
