Introduction
The American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) received a record-breaking 268 eligible abstracts for consideration for presentation at the 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), including 113 original research studies and 155 case reports. Each abstract was reviewed in a blinded fashion by a minimum of three Abstract Review Committee members and was independently scored based on the clinical question, innovation, data source, analytic method, results, conclusions, and presentation of the abstract. A total of 208 abstracts were accepted for presentation at the meeting.
This impressive collection of research abstracts would not be possible without the hard work and diligence of our abstract review team: Gillian Beauchamp, Mary Billington, Adam Blumenberg, Marielle Brenner, Jeff Brent, Keith Burkhart, Vincent Calleo*, Joe Carpenter*, Stephanie Carreiro*, Peter Chai*, Michael Chary*, Richard Chen, James Chenoweth*, Neeraj Chhabra, Jon Cole, Nicholas Connors*, Riley Hartmann, Hannah Hays, Rob Hendrickson*, Michelle Hieger, David Jang, David Juurlink, Louise Kao*, Kenneth Katz, Ziad Kazzi*, Michael Keenan, Joseph Kennedy, Andrew King, Shana Kusin*, JoAn Laes, Eric Lavonas*, Jacob Lebin, Vincent Lee, Michael Levine*, Brian Lewis, David Liss, Gregory Makar, Alex Manini, Kevin Maskell*, Christopher Meaden, Andrew Monte, Elissa Moore, Babak Mostafazadeh, Mark Mycyk, Travis Olives, Renee Petzel Gimbar, Anthony Pizon, Patricia Rosen, Jonathan Schimmel, Evan Schwarz*, Daniel Sessions, Mark Su*, Manoj Tyagi, Steven Walsh, Richard Wang, Sage Weiner, Brandon Wills, and Luke Yip. In addition to our abstract review team, fellows in training who were part of our mentorship program assisted in the review process.
We would like to thank Mark Mycyk, the chair of the ACMT Abstract Review Mentor program, and the fellows-in-training who participated in the third year of this valuable program: Jay Adams, Andrew Chambers, Christopher Dion, Catherine Dong, Paul Ehlers, Ryan Fuchs, Henrik Galust, Ruby Hoang, Jessica Krueger, Michael Simpson, Hannah Spungen, Jim Whitledge, and Brandtly Yakey. We would also like to thank everyone who served as a faculty mentor to our fellow abstract reviewers, noted above with an * above. We appreciate not only their extra time, effort, and attention to scoring this year, but also their generous dedication to training future medical toxicology researchers. We plan to continue this program next year.
Lastly, we would like to thank Alison Meyn, Clinical Research Quality Analyst, and Adrienne Dunavin, Education Program Manager, from ACMT, who organized and led the process from beginning to end. We appreciate all of their hard work and significant contributions. Their dedication, time, and effort were critical to the preparation, review process, notification of decisions, and publication of the abstract book. They continue their diligent work in preparing the final conference details and work behind the scenes throughout the conference to ensure the abstracts are presented at an outstanding meeting.
We are excited to present the 208 abstracts accepted for publication at the 2023 ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting in San Diego, CA. Welcome to all trainees who will be in attendance! Please introduce yourselves, ask questions of the investigators, and use this opportunity to make valuable connections across our specialty. As our first in-person meeting since 2019, we encourage all those in attendance to ask questions, offer suggestions on the research being presented, and to connect with each other. We welcome all feedback to improve the abstract submission, acceptance, and presentation process. We are also thrilled to announce that Journal of Medical Toxicology (JMT) will be ready to offer expedited review for manuscript submissions to the journal that come from ASM abstract presentations. We invite all author-presenters interested in this opportunity to reach out to any JMT editor during their week in San Diego.
Congratulations to all the contributors whose outstanding work will be presented at the 2023 ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting in San Diego.
We look forward to a great meeting!
Katherine Boyle, MD, FACMT, Abstract Review Chair.
Michael Toce, MD, MS, FACMT, Abstract Review Co-Chair.
