This volume edited by Michael R. Jaff is the 2nd in a projected series, Endovascular Intervention: Today and Tomorrow, published by Futura and edited by Frank J. Criado. Here, Jaff has assembled a reputable group of surgeons and interventionalists who present 10 chapters regarding the causes, natural history, diagnosis, and treatment of atherosclerotic renovascular disease, including both surgical and endovascular techniques and the results of such therapy.
By gathering up-to-date information on this subject in a concise and objective manner, this monograph is well suited both to the beginner and to the experienced interventionalist or surgeon who wishes to update his or her knowledge. Deficiencies include redundancy of information in chapters written by different authors and absent or inadequate discussion of a few important topics: there is no discussion of contrast-induced nephropathy (and the means of preventing it); and the discussions of both fibromuscular hyperplasia (evaluation and treatment) and restenosis after renal artery stenting (incidence and causes) are weak.
Despite its shortcomings, this monograph is one of the best and most concise sources of information in the very rapidly evolving field of renovascular disease.
