The traditional biannual gathering of the photoacoustic and photothermal community—The International Conference on Photoacoustic and Photothermal Phenomena (ICPPP) took place in Bled, Slovenia, from 19 to 24 June 2022, after a one year delay because of COVID-19.
As the most relevant forum for specialists in the fields of laser physics, thermophysics, bio- and nanophotonics, materials science, laser medicine, theranostics, analytical and physical chemistry, thermal analysis, and non-destructive testing and evaluation the ICPPP21 program included traditional topics of the ICPPP conferences as well as contributions on fundamental and applied interdisciplinary research, especially in the field of materials science and biomedicine.
This special issue presents a small collection of selected papers from ICPPP21 invited keynote speakers, which cover examples of the latest achievements in development and applications of photoacoustic and photothermal techniques for materials characterisation (photopyroelectric studies of nematic isotropic phase transitions in liquid cristals, thermography of insulating solids, photoacoustic detection of airborne particulates) as well as investigation of biological tissues by photo-thermal optical coherence tomography and applications of machine learning in photothermal techniques.
The editors wish to thank to authors who have submitted papers to this topical issue and the reviewers who have taken time to review and comment on the submissions.
