CORRECTION TO “MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE DIRECTION OF BIAS FROM NONDIFFERENTIAL MISCLASSIFICATION”

In the article “Misconceptions About the Direction of Bias From Nondifferential Misclassification” by Yland et al. (1), there were the following errors.

On page 1487, in the last paragraph under the section header, “EXCEPTION 2: NONDIFFERENTIAL MISCLASSIFICATION OF A MULTILEVEL EXPOSURE VARIABLE,” the text reads, “In Table 3, we present data where 30% of individuals with truly high exposure are misclassified as having low exposure.” The correct text is, “In Table 3, we present data where 30% of individuals with truly high exposure are misclassified as having no exposure.”

In addition, in Table 3 on page 1490, the heading “30% exposure misclassified across adjacent categories (high to low)^c” should read “30% exposure misclassified across nonadjacent categories (high to none)^c.” The corresponding footnote c should read, “30% of people with truly high exposure are misclassified as having no exposure. In this example, the RR for any exposure versus no exposure crosses the null (the direction of the association is reversed).”

The authors regret these errors.
