A Network Meta-Analysis and GRADE Assessment of the Effect of Preoperative Oral Antibiotics with and Without Mechanical Bowel Preparation on Surgical Site Infection Rate in Colorectal Surgery: Erratum

PMCID: PMC10513131  PMID: 37746598

In the article “A Network Meta-Analysis and GRADE Assessment of the Effect of Preoperative Oral Antibiotics with and Without Mechanical Bowel Preparation on Surgical Site Infection Rate in Colorectal Surgery” by Jalalzadeh et al., which published in Annals of Surgery Open on June 23, 2022, an error was discovered:

Two studies with (partly) overlapping data had both been included in the systematic review and network meta-analysis (Zmora 2003, Zmora 2006). After revision we excluded Zmora 2006.

After excluding one study, the results for primary outcome Surgical site infections (SSI) are as follows:

Compared to no preparation, the network estimates showed a relative risk (RR) for SSI of 0.57 (95% CI 0.45-0.73) for MBP-OA, 0.71 (95% CI, 0.50-1.01) for OA, and 1.04 (95% CI, 0.86-1.27) for MBP. The RR for MBP-OA compared to OA was 0.81 (95% CI 0.54-1.19).

The conclusion of the study does not change with the correction.
