Abstract
Central neurocytoma is a rare intraventricular tumor often thought to be benign but can demonstrate aggressive behavior such as recurrence or CNS dissemination with elevated MIB1 index. This is a clinical case presentation of a 19 year old male who presented with increased intracranial pressure and was found to have atypical central neurocytoma with Ki-67 of 5%. Given residual disease after second craniotomy and high risk for recurrence, patient was treated with a six week course of proton therapy. Patient responded to radiation therapy with stable disease and improvement of cognitive function. Outcome of disease stability with proton therapy is consistent with reported literature. This case adds further evidence for use of proton therapy in patients with atypical central neurocytoma.
