Success stories

The CFP/CFC programmes were established 10 years ago to create a veterinary environment that was more sympathetic to cats’ needs. Recent research published in JFMS, entitled ‘Perception of stress in cats by German cat owners and influencing factors regarding veterinary care’ (DOI: 10.1177/1098612X211041307), has confirmed that owners recognise veterinary visits are stressful for their cats and this in turn causes stress to themselves, which a cat-friendly demeanour from the veterinarian can reduce. While the success of the programmes can be difficult to quantify, positive responses from clients and clinic staff from survey work support their benefits.

At the heart of the CFP/CFC programmes is the opportunity to assist a practice in implementing easy changes to create a better experience for each cat. This includes reducing stress during the visit as well as understanding and assessing the environment from the cat’s point of view. All cats should benefit from a cat friendly environment, cat friendly care and a cat friendly experience.

The accompanying testimonials demonstrate how CFP/CFC has helped veterinary staff embrace cat friendly principles, how their practices are set apart from others and how the veterinarian-client-patient relationship is enhanced, benefiting all feline patients by elevating the quality of care for cats.
