Message from Vice President cum President elect (2024)

Mental health and well-being is an important area of total health of an individual. Mental well-being gives value to life. So far, the model of health care has been disease- and treatment-oriented. The wholistic health model talks of prevention and promotion of health, and it cannot be conceived without a robust mental health and well-being.

This issue of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) for psychiatrists deals with concept to strategies of practice of mental health and well-being in different age groups and gender, and different settings like workplace and special working conditions like armed forces and internal security have been described in this issue. Special areas like using artificial intelligence, developing infrastructure, coping with loneliness, and use of art and creativity for mental health and well-being have been well covered, which can be used by psychiatrists in practice. Life style modification for mental health is of great interest.

Overall, I find this issue of CPG will be very useful for practice of psychiatry by colleagues working in periphery as well as in institutions.

I congratulate the CPG committee for developing guidelines on this important area and all the authors and group expert members for putting their efforts in bringing out this document. I am sure this issue of CPG will be very useful for members and fellows of Indian Psychiatric Society.
