My dear colleagues of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists,
Warm greetings from ISA National Headquarters!
Research, be it a researcher’s passion for conducting a study or a part of a postgraduate thesis, should always result in presentation before an academic audience and disseminate by publication in good quality journals. Nevertheless, research work involves team management.[1] It involves several steps such as finding of the research question, submission of the study to the ethics committee, clinical trial registry approval, collection of data, statistical analysis, obtaining of inferences and preparation of the manuscript/paper. The final presentation of the research work in conferences and scientific journals involves a lot of hard and intellectual work put in by the conference scientific committee members, the peer reviewers of the papers, the judges of the paper sessions and the journal editorial team. The 70th National conference of the ISA organised by ISA Gurugram city branch and hosted by ISA Haryana state branch from 22nd to 26th November 2023 is no exception to this. It provided a global academic platform wherein several hundreds of research papers were presented by postgraduate students, teachers and practitioners.
It is a well known fact that the abstract is the single most important part of any original research article that the vast majority of readers usually want to see.[2] This abstract supplement of the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia (IJA) depicts the abstracts of good research studies that made their way to the prestigious award session platforms of ISACON 2023. It is a rich testimony of the zeal of our Indian anaesthesiologists to conduct research and present their interesting findings. I congratulate the editorial team of IJA for bringing out the abstract supplement in time.
I am sure that the research abstracts published in this supplement will kindle and strengthen the flame of research amongst us. Anaesthesia in India is unique in its unity amongst a vast diversity.[3] The diversity of techniques, resources, advancing technology and geographical locations, entail an even greater diversity in research questions that need to be studied. There is neither a dearth of research questions in our fraternity nor a dearth in researchers. It is time to emphasise on designing and conducting novel robust studies. Conducting ‘me too studies’ for the sake of dissertation completion or faculty promotions in medical colleges should never be the main and sole objective behind research. My best wishes to all ISA members and PG students and everyone should keep striving to deliver their best in Research Academics.
Long Live ISA!
