Dear ISA members and readers,
Namaste.
The national conference of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) provides a platform for researchers of all hues and colours to come and participate and share their knowledge and experiences with the delegates. The delegates, consisting of practitioners and trainees, also provide avenues for presenting scientific papers. The platform presentations, the electronic presentations (E-presentation and E-posters), have become popular and sought after due to the sheer increase in research work across the country amongst the anaesthesia community.
Approximately 4700 seats for postgraduate studies in anaesthesia were allotted in 2023, constituting more than 10% of overall postgraduate seats. The National Medical Commission (NMC) mandates presentations of research papers by trainees during their course. The governments across the country appointing authorities and the NMC also recognise scientific paper presentations by teaching faculty as part of the assessment for promotions.
To promote the spirit of research, the ISA has provided the required platform and online system for submitting abstracts yearly for its annual national conference. The same is vetted by a structured format and expert opinion and allotted to different sessions based on specialities. The ISA has created numerous award sessions over the years: the TN Jha - Chansoria Award, the ISA Ludhiana Award, the KOPs Award, the Ish Narani Award, Dr M.T. Bhatia Award, the ISA Jaipur Award etc.,
The ISA publishes the abstracts of the presentations after a thorough filtering mechanism as a separate supplement to the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia (IJA). There were more than 800 presentations during the ISACON 2023 held at Gurugram, which have been taken up for publication by the IJA.
I hope this supplement will work as a ready reckoner for readers worldwide to know about the research activities undertaken in anaesthesiology, pain and critical care. I thank the organising committee of ISACON 2023 and the Editor-in-Chief of IJA for their tireless efforts in compiling this issue.
Long Live ISA!
