Abstract
Description
The HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine would like to thank those behind the scenes who make this publication possible. Our journal would not be possible without the assistance of our peer reviewers, authors, and board members. We also share a special message for our resident and fellow board members.
Keywords: scholarly communication, peer review, research, open-access publishing, education, medical, graduate, medical journalism
Once again, the HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine sends its appreciation to the reviewers and editorial staff who have contributed to the journal in the second half of 2023. It was a banner year for the journal with our inclusion in the PubMed Central index and an enlargement of our editorial board due to an increase in submissions.
We wanted to highlight a role we haven’t shared in these pages, that of our resident and fellow board members. From our inception our intent was to be true to our sponsor, HCA Healthcare Graduate Medical Education (GME). Our journal has a special focus on education, and part of the focus includes having at least 2 trainees on the editorial board. We have generally tried to have at least 1 resident and 1 fellow from HCA Healthcare GME as part of our team each year. It has been a pleasure working with our resident and fellow cohorts on the journal these past 4 years. Most have published an article with the journal during their time on the board and others have involved themselves with helping us build our social media presence and launching new initiatives, such as our author interviews and an ongoing series of dermatology clinical image articles that highlights dermatological diseases in various degrees of skin pigmentation.
This year we welcome Drs Diana Diaz (psychiatry resident) and Hamza Naveed (internal medicine resident) to the board. We also bring back cardiology fellow Dr Emad Elgwairi for a second year. I would like to thank our departing resident, Dr Steven Sprenger. Dr Sprenger has taken the opportunity on the board to submit several articles and to learn the ins-and-outs of editing by working with his program director and board member, Dr Scott Anderson. We hope the experiences gained by our trainee board members help them advance their careers and have a greater appreciation for scholarly publishing and peer review that help improve care.
Please be sure to follow the journal on our social media accounts. We can be found on Instagram (@hcajom1), LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/hcajom1/), and Twitter/X (@hcajom1). The journal also provides an interview series with additional insight into the articles we publish as well as conversations with physicians on topics of interest to our readers. All of our audio interviews can be found at: https://scholarlycommons.hcahealthcare.com/hca_jom_interviews/.
As always, we encourage our readers to consider submitting their work, both scientific and artistic, and ask them to consider sharing their expertise as peer reviewers. Authorship and peer review with the journal are forms of scholarly activity recognized by the ACGME.
Thank you for your continued support of the
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine.
