The Editorial Board of Journal of Medical Toxicology (JMT) would like to recognize and thank all those who served as peer reviewers for this journal in 2023. Thorough, constructive, and honest peer review by experts who volunteer their time was indispensable to the editors of JMT. Last year JMT received over 300 new manuscripts for consideration. Less than 24% of all submitted manuscripts were eventually published in the journal after careful peer review and editorial board deliberation. Our peer reviewers play a vital role in making sure the studies we publish meet the highest ethical standards, are scientifically credible, and add meaningfully to the evolving body of medical knowledge. We fully recognize peer review is not perfect, and we continuously evaluate our procedures and strive to do better.
This year we are delighted to recognize our inaugural group of “Distinguished Reviewers.” We are particularly grateful to this dedicated cadre of reviewers. They comprise an elite class determined by our editorial board based on the number, quality, and timeliness of peer reviews in 2023. Fewer than 20% of our peer reviewers are included in this eminent group.
Finally, the editors of JMT would like to express our gratitude to the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) for their unconditional support for JMT. Even though JMT maintains complete editorial independence from ACMT, the support from ACMT’s board of directors and all their staff members has been essential to the journal’s continued success.
We are now in our 20th year of uninterrupted publishing. On behalf of the entire editorial board, thank you to all our peer reviewers for elevating the science and practice of medical toxicology.
