Comment on Shear-wave Elastography of Palatine Tonsils: A Normative Study in Children

Dear Editor,

In July–September 2023 issue of the distinguished Journal of Medical Ultrasound, Aydin et al.[1] employed shear wave elastography (SWE) and generated the normal elasticity values of the palatine tonsils (PTs) for the Turkish pediatric population. Aydin et al.[1] addressed a few study limitations. We present the following worthy limitation. Apart from age, elastography method, and body mass index, race needs to be taken into consideration when doing ultrasound elastography and setting normative values of a particular organ.[2] Although Turkey is a notable country with racial disparity,[3] Aydin et al.[1] did not consider the racial origins of the studied population in the study methodology. This limitation could additionally hinder the applicability of the constructed PT normative data in clinical practice and research. Despite the study limitations, the formulated PT reference values hasten the usefulness of SWE in assessing the health status of tonsils in children.[4]
