In Italy in the past year, a cancer treatment known as Di Bella multitherapy was widely prescribed despite lack of scientific evidence. Eleven independent multicentre uncontrolled phase II trials relevant to eight different types of advanced cancer were conducted (p 224). Among the 386 patients enrolled in the trials, only three responded; 47 patients had stable disease, 199 progressed, and 97 died. The results of these trials indicate that this regimen does not have sufficient efficacy to warrant further clinical testing.
