To assess whether doctors in theatre could manage ventricular fibrillation well Fielden and Bradbury asked 23 surgeons and 25 anaesthetists to manage stimulated fibrillation with one of two types of defibrillator (p 232): 40 failed to defibrillate according to advanced life support protocols, showing failures because of lack of safety and lack of knowledge. The authors recommend better training for doctors in theatre.
