The Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (JDAPM) was originally established in 2001 as the official publication of the Korean Dental Society of Anesthesiology. In 2014, recognizing the challenge of finding leading international journals in the field of dental anesthesiology, the journal underwent a transformation. In 2015, it was renamed JDAPM from the Journal of the Korean Dental Society of Anesthesiology and transitioned from a Korean-language to an English-language publication, aiming to enhance its international presence and accessibility. Since 2015, the journal has been registered with the U.S. National Library of Medicine and offers online articles accessible at https://www.jdapm.org. Each article is assigned a DOI for online tracking and management. Moreover, JDAPM has adopted Open Access to ensure that its full text is freely accessible to all. In 2017, the journal linked authors' unique ORCID identifiers to ensure author verification and access to their previous research achievements. Subsequently, in September 2017, it was indexed in PubMed Central, making it searchable on PubMed and available in full text on PubMed Central.
The collaboration with the Federation of Asian Dental Anesthesiology Societies (FADAS), established in 2007, serves as a pivotal force driving the development of JDAPM. FADAS aims to promote the advancement of dental anesthesiology in Asia and to enhance education and research in the field. In September 2015, JDAPM became the official journal of FADAS, serving as an important platform for sharing knowledge and information on Asian dental anesthesiology. JDAPM has received financial support from the Japanese Dental Society of Anesthesiology and the Chinese Stomatological Society of Anesthesiology.
JDAPM is a comprehensive academic journal that covers various scholarly discussions. These include topics such as local anesthesia [1] for the safe management of pain and anxiety in dental patients, dental sedation [2], and general anesthesia for oral and maxillofacial surgery. In addition, the journal addresses behavior management [3], sedation, and general anesthesia for pediatric and special needs dental treatments [4], as well as postoperative pain management for maxillofacial and head and neck surgeries. Furthermore, it delves into chronic pain management [5], emergency care in dental practice [6], and educational aspects related to dental anesthesia. While JDAPM primarily focuses on Asia as its main scope, it welcomes submissions from researchers worldwide. Its main contributors include dentists, anesthesiologists, and researchers involved in dental anesthesia. The readership comprises all dentists performing dental anesthesia, along with related medical professionals, researchers, and students.
In April 2024, JDAPM achieved another milestone in its international recognition by being included in the Web of Science™ Emerging Sources Citation Index. This recognition serves as a significant indicator of JDAPM's ongoing commitment to consistently publishing high-quality papers.
JDAPM has established itself as a leading international academic journal in the field of dental anesthesiology. Through continuous development and adaptation, JDAPM aims to provide a higher level of scholarly discourse in this field. Its inclusion in the Web of Science™ reflects its high academic value and will further contribute to the advancement of dental anesthesiology. JDAPM is dedicated to helping dentists, anesthesiologists specializing in dental anesthesia, and researchers worldwide gain higher recognition for their work. As the prestige of JDAPM grows, research in related fields of dental anesthesia is expected to become more active. To achieve this, JDAPM plans to enhance global collaboration and communication with researchers and publish more diverse and in-depth research papers. Additionally, by providing the latest research trends and essential information for clinical practice, JDAPM will contribute to the professional development of dentists.
