After house posts, he joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer
Reserve, serving in Burma and the Far East. He started as a general
practitioner in Southport in 1949. Victor was a founder member of a
modern health centre in 1971. He left general practice after 28 years
to work in the community health service, retiring in 1973. In 1980
Victor graduated from Lancaster University with a BA in combined social
studies. He died from cardiac failure, having recovered from colon
cancer in 1973. He leaves a wife, Joy; four children; and six
grandchildren.
