Former physician King's Lynn (b Surrey 1922; q London Hospital Medical School 1945; FRCP, VRD), died from a ruptured abdominal aneurysm on 11 November 2001.
He had a lifelong love of the sea. During the second world war, he delivered armed motor fishing vessels. After house jobs he joined the Royal Navy, spending three years in South Africa. He later spent six months as medical officer on a whaling expedition. Before being appointed consultant in 1967, he sailed in a transatlantic race. He sailed on the Brig Royalist and took colleagues to sea. An active member of his local church, he was ever ready to educate the unwary tourist.
