Former consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Withington Hospital, Manchester (b Manchester 1920; q Manchester 1943; MD, FRCOG), d 12 May 2001.
He was appointed consultant in South Manchester in 1950. Through his efforts one of the first new maternity units in the North West region was opened to patients in 1963 at Withington Hospital. He retired from active practice in 1985, and although his health declined due to cancer of the bladder, he remained active and cheerful. He took up Latin and Greek and regularly finished the Times crossword before breakfast.
